High Definition Television Access Today

Author: Lillian Wills

High-definition TVs (or HDTV) are TV’s that have a way of accepting and displaying the newer digital broadcasting, which is at higher resolution standards than SDTV. To be able to get the excellent and superb quality picture that is a trademark with HD TV’s it will require a HD signal.

Most high definition TV’s will be able to capture the HD signal in one of these ways: High definition TV’s are capable of receiving what is call over the air broadcasts with the help of an antenna. The HDTV will pick up the broadcast over the air in HD. The TV will process this information with the help of a HD tuner. The tuner can be built in the TV, which is the case in most of the newer TV’s or the tuner can be attached to the HD ready TV externally.

The external HD tuner boxes are available through your cable or satellite company or purchased outright at an electronics store. High definition TV’s are capable of receiving HD signals through their cable companies digital service. The cable company supplies a cable box that supplies the HD channels or if you have a Cablecard HDTV the cable company will issue the security card needed to put into the card slot built into the TV. This card allows you access to the channels. High definition TV’s are also capable of receiving HD signals through the local satellite company. In order to access HDTV through satellite most companies will require you to purchase a new satellite box that is set up to receive HD signals. Satellite companies offer it as an upgrade to your regular service. High definition TV’s today have many other options available to them.

Some video games and systems can be used with a HD signal. Almost all graphics cards for the computer can be used with a HDTV jack. One thing to remember when you go out to purchase a new HDTV is that because it has more lines of resolution the HDTV will provide a much superior image than SDTV.

Even though you may be shopping for a TV on a budget it is wise to not that the size of the TV has an impact on the picture quality you will receive. You will be able to view a superior quality picture in larger TV’s. The smaller the TV the less you may be able to tell the difference in image quality.
